First of all, I don't think either of the PS2 models can use wireless internet. You'll need a wired connection; eitehr dial-up or broadband (something like DSL) will work, but most online games only go online with broadband.
If you have the bigger model of the PS2 (you can tell by looking in the back of it and if it doesn't have an Ethernet port, which is where you would plug your internet cable in), then you have to by a Network Adapter before you can go online. It should come with a device (the actual Network Adapter) that hooks into the back and has an Ethernet port on it (which is where you would hook your internet cable into), an installation CD (to set your PS2 up online), and 1 or several long internet cables (with an extension). Put in the installation CD in your PS2 and it will follow you through the steps to set your PS2 up online (it takes a while, though, so make sure you have a lot of free time before you go through with it).
If you have a slim one, I'm pretty sure it's a lot less of a hassle. It already has an Ethernet port (internet cable port) built in, so I think all you have to do is plug in your internet, and if you don't set your internet up on it when you first start it up, you probably would after plugging your internet cable in. You might not even have to set it up at all, but since I don't have a slim PS2, I don't know exactly how to set it up on it.
Finally, not all games can go online. If they can, you will see a gray ';Online'; logo on them, and it will say whether it can go online with a dial-up or broadband connection, or only a broadband connection. To see what one looks like on a PS2 game box, click the link below:
